Model A Update
27 hours in the shop last weekend, resulted in some serious tin work! Side panels are welded in and ready for final smoothing and blending. No more wheel wells! Here's some pictures I took over the past couple months of building. Still a long way to go, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter by the day.
Another jam session this weekend should help finish a lot of things....

Artist - Ed Tillrock
Okay, I don't do a whole lot on Art on here and I really should do more. I ran across Ed on the Jalopy Journal recently and checked out his site and was really taken back by his talent. He draws very life-like, full detail sketches of hot rods and also some amazing architectural renderings.
Here's what Ed had to say:
"I’ve been an illustrator in the Chicago-land area for over 30 years. My love of cars and drawing goes back to my earliest memories. Drawing cars when I should have been paying attention to my grade school teachers, and begging my dad to buy old junk so I could make hot rods out of them. At least my wife is a gear-head so I don’t have to beg quite as much.
The pencil renderings I do now are a culmination of techniques I've devloped as an architectural illustrator and as an artist. I always try to achieve a realism, a believablility as in the 1922 Harley I recently completed. I think I could take that bike apart and put it back together in the dark. I try to take as many photo's of the subject as possible that way I can get the details right..."
Check out Ed Tillrock's website HERE.
Thanks for your time Ed! Keep up the great work!

Crafty B Hot Rod Parts
One of the things I've really been trying to do here lately, is focus on good people who make cool parts for all of us. I stumbled on this guy just a couple days ago and was FLOORED by what I saw! Flip caps, friction shocks, mini E&J style lights, shifters, and all kinds of neat pieces...
So Who is Crafty B Hot Rod Parts? Crafty was started by a guy named Kirk Brown, a family man with a wife, two kids, dogs, cats and... well... okay, here's what he has to say:
"I was a tool and die maker for 15 years, I now work out of my own shop doing all types of Tool & Die, metal fabricating and custom steel railings. 4 years ago I had run in with throat cancer even though I've never smoked in my life. I had to do all the treatments to take care of that and now...well im still here! I sold my manufacturing business I was involved with and simplified my life by working out of my own shop. I have a bunch of old projects, some are done and some are not but my thinking is you can never have enough old cars and bikes around. I like all type of cars and trucks. I can find something on about every car or truck that I can learn from. I have kind of left the "restored to orginal" phase of my life and have been trying to build from scratch on the last 2 or 3 projects and to me this is way more interesting then ordering replacement parts from a book."
One of Kirk's finished projects that recently graced the pages of Rod & Custom
With that little bit from him, here's what this brilliant guy is making:
Photos of all his products can be seen here in the link below.

Prices and details are advertised on the Jalopy Journal and can be seen here:

Kirk tells me he has a website brewing. When it's up and running I will update everyone and add it to my favorites list.

Need info on Blown 1936 Ford Coupe
All I know about this car is that it was built by Keith Tardel, at REX RODS and is quite a piece of work! Who wouldn't love a blown Ardun??!! Can someone tell me more about the car or even share some more pictures of the car? I originally saw it on Popular Hot Rodding's site, but there wasn't much info provided. Chris Casny and the Devils Woodshop
So a while back I did a post on here covering a day trip up to Burbank where Old Crow Speed Shop and Hollywood Hot Rods were having an open house. (May coverage) While I was up there, I dropped in on my buddy Chris at his shop to see how his Coupe was coming along. Lookin' good, of course!! Well, since then, I've really wanted to tell you all a little bit more about Mr. Chris Casny and the Devil's Woodshop.
Chris Casny moved to Los Angeles in 1994 from Switzerland, where he was able to put his talent as an Industrial Designer to good use in the movie industry, as a prop-maker. A little while after, in 2001, the idea of "the Devil's Woodshop" was born. It started life as a side gig with his garage in Hollywood being the business home. With good succes came the next big step of purchasing his own building and workshop in Burbank, which happened in 2004. Full time wood madness was ON! Nothing but success, ever since. Here's some of his amazing work...
In all this, Chris has a real love for hot rods as well! Here's what Chris had to say about his new addiction...
"Old cars always fascinated me, I never understood the guys that were into the newest seven series BMW's, just to show off. The common status symbols, never worked for me, I like old stuff, that is by most people, regarded as outdated and useless. My current project, a 1931 Ford Model a coupe. It was purchased from Aaron Kahan (Burbank Choppers). According to Aaron, the car ran around the streets of Barstow CA, in the early 60's, It originally ran a V8 Chevy engine backed by a 39 Ford trans'. It was a mild full fendered hot rod with bobbed rear fenders, 49 Merc wheels, etc. I call it "The One" because it is my dreamcar I've always wanted. I didn't just want to go out and buy a finished car, no I had to have a hand in every detail."
Chris went on to say that once the car is done, (hopefully early 2009)it will have the following features:
* 1956, 322 Buick Nailhead V8 engine
* 1939 Ford tranny with Lincoln Zephyr gears
* 1932 Ford frame
* 1948 Chevy taillights
* cowl steering
* 1936 rear axle
* 1940 Ford wheels
* 4" chop
* 3" dropped model A axle
* six (6) Stomberg 97's carbs
* Offenhauser 6x2 intake manifold
* Gloss black paint
* a few nickel plated accents
* interior to be finished in black leather and stitched by Dave Martinez
That car as purchased by Aaron at the LA Roadster Show swap.
The madness doesn't stop with building stuff. Chris has a great eye for photography. Here's a little tid bit, from him, on that subject.
"In recent years I developed a passion for photography, and I carry a camera wherever I go, I like taking pictures of mechanical stuff like hot rods and industrial stuff. Rolls & Pleats magazine has used several of my shots, over the past year and a half, and continues to support my work."
Here's some of his awesome pictures...
A man of many talents! I will certainly be featuring more pictures from him here as well as updates on "the One" build. I don't know about you guys, but I'm certainly looking forward to seeing that thing done! OH! And if you guys need any rad furniture built, now you know who will put the Devil in the details for you
Thanks for reading and thanks to Chris for helping me put together this little post.
Cheers!
